Welcoming new members of MiCA’s team!

This summer marks exciting shifts as MiCA continues to grow our team and further the work of archiving Canada’s Muslim histories. 

At the start of July, the Institute of Islamic Studies, which houses MiCA, welcomed  Amira Mittermaier as Director. Amira Mittermaier is a professor in the Department for the Study of Religion and Department of Anthropology whose research explores Muslim life-worlds via ethnography. We offer our warm congratulations to Amira Mittermaier for this appointment and extend our sincere gratitude to Anver Emon, inaugural director of the Muslims in Canada Archives. Read statements from the incoming and outgoing directors here. 

Fostering spaces of exchange and mentorship, MiCA also works closely with students and emerging archivists. We’re pleased to welcome Laila Vahed (Assistant Archivist), Huda Al-Hussaini (Collections Management Intern), Deeqa Alin (Collections Management Intern), and Anah Ibrahim (Archival Operations & Outreach Intern) to the team! Laila, Huda, Deeqa, and Anah bring diverse past experiences and interests that enrich the work of better documenting the Muslim histories of Canada. Visit our Team page to learn more.
